Vocabulary – Strategy Five: Blogging Academic Vocabulary

Your Thoughts! Since we have finished reading “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott
Fitzgerald, we are going to be blogging our thoughts. You are going to be
writing a book review explaining not only if you liked it, but also write a
critical review using the following vocabulary terms we have come to know and
use. You will write a review that is uses all these terms, explains your
personal thoughts in a critical manner, and is at least 250 words. Copy the link of your blog post in response to this post. Feel free to
use pictures, memes, or videos to support your blog post as well! Have fun with
it!
Mood –
how the author wants the reader to feel as they read; mood is a literary
element that evokes certain feelings or vibes in readers through
words and descriptions. Usually, mood is referred to as the atmosphere of a
literary piece, as it creates an emotional situation that surrounds the
readers.
Tone –
how the author feels as he/she writes; an attitude of a writer toward
a subject or an audience. Tone is generally conveyed through the choice of
words or the viewpoint of a writer on a particular subject.
Theme – a
main idea or an underlying meaning of a literary work that may be stated
directly or indirectly.
Characterization
– a literary device that is used step by step in literature to highlight and
explain the details about a character in a story.
Point of
view – the mode of narration that an author employs to let the readers “hear”
and “see” what takes place in a story, poem, essay etc.
